Fred Morgan Victory Over Obesity

Fred Morgan

Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and mammals, exceeds healthy limits. Simply put, where there is too much fat, the result will be obesity. Obesity is a serious medical condition that affects more than 64 percent of U.S. adults, and about 31 percent of U.S children and adolescents. It increases risk factors for certain health conditions and is the second leading cause of preventable death.

Unfortunately, the epidemic of obesity is soaring magnanimously. As it continues to escalate, health problems such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease, are also swelling. Its effects are being felt worldwide, and its destructive nature is impacting all races, ages, and ethnic groups. Since the 1980s, obesity rates have risen three-fold or more in some areas of North America, the United Kingdom, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, the Pacific Islands, and Australia. In less than a decade, the estimated number for obesity in adults globally has increased from 200 million to more than 300 million.

The primary cause for this endemic is unhealthy living. Let’s face the facts; today’s society does not make healthy living convenient or affordable. Most foods are high in sugar and saturated fats; not only that, they’re cheaper than healthier options. Combining unhealthy food with an inactive lifestyle results in obesity. However, this problem can be solved by making some lifestyle adjustments.

The first step in gaining victory over obesity is to get an image on the inside of you—see yourself the way you want to be. Once you have an image of something, it will not be withheld from you (Genesis 11:6). Great courage, excitement, and determination come when you start imagining what you want. Meditate on your image daily, and don’t allow anything or anyone to take it from you. As you meditate, release your faith in God’s ability to bring it to pass.

The second step is making a decree, or a quality decision to live a healthy lifestyle (Job 22:28). Deuteronomy 30:19 says, “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessings and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thou seed may live.” You have two choices: life or death—a healthy lifestyle or an unhealthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle leads to a long life; on the other hand, an unhealthy lifestyle leads to an early death. Bear in mind that whatever you choose also affects your children as well.

Thirdly, learn to develop restraints over your emotions where eating is concerned. Emotional eating is one of the major causes of obesity. Often when a person engages in emotional eating, it’s not a healthy choice of food. Gaining control over your emotions helps you avoid unwanted and unnecessary calories.

When possible, prepare your own meals. It’s important to know what you’re putting in your body. Fast food is literally destroying people physically and mentally. The meat at fast food restaurants is full of harmful hormones, the vegetables are full of pesticides, and the sodium and sugars used as preservatives are also toxic, and can lead to an early death. Avoid fast food whenever possible.

Lastly, get active. Daily exercise prevents obesity and lowers your body fat percentage. Stimulating muscle growth is what helps you burn fat and keep it off.

Remember, your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. It should be honored as a place where God dwells. Make your temple a comfortable place for His presence to maneuver and reign.

You have victory over everything in your life, including obesity. Make a decision, get active, and trust God to bring to pass in the natural what is already settled in the spiritual realm. He can do it, and so can you!
